rockinroyston
HiJust a quick question re rust protection on a new build (before I bolt too many bits on...)I've done:Grot traps in engine bay with dintroldinitroled the inside of the de Dion tubeI know to do wings with underseal to prevent cracksSo other big ticket items:Do I underseal the whole underside of the floor pan? would seem a good idea but it looks so clean & shiny...at the moment...Do I underseal the Diff enclosure area? this would seem a good idea too..propshaft tunnel?I have my ACF 50 for the inner ali panels etcWill varnish the wooden boot insertThese look like good tasks for my trainee pit crew... & will also distract me from the engine & gearbox project... SM25T
Maybe paint floors inside and out with an etch primer (Hammerite special metals primer) then a black satin paint.
Gloucestershire AR
...and engine compartment. Easiest to do before you put the engine in. Makes it look good too.
rockinroyston
Thanks, Hadn't really thought of doing the engine bay & quite like the Ali look, any pictures? Also found this which would match the body work sort of... if I rolled it over in a ditch...https://www.amazon.co.uk/Hammerite-Direct-Galvanised-Metal-Paint/dp/B00N4ZC2UO/ref=cm_wl_huc_itemI'll see what other feedback I get before I commence operations. DJ.
I sprayed Dinitrol 3125 cavity wax all down the transmission tunnel, round the fuel tank and behind it, all over the diff/rear suspension area, under the floor and the engine bay sides. I then gave the floor a coat of 4941 black wax. It turned my nice new chassis into a brown slimey mess, but after almost six years and 28000 miles it's holding up pretty well.Still don't drive it on salt though.Duncan
Paul McKenzie
My car had the '96 special powder coating' when they skimped on pre-treatment, so after the first year, I brush painted all the tubes that don't show plus the DD with 'Hammerite with Waxoyl', and they're still good. rockinroyston
Thanks for the input!, I'm going for Dinitrol underneath & then going to make a decision on the interior floor (probably the black hammerite product) at a later point... At the moment its a storage area & I'd have to decant elsewhere & there is no elsewhere at present...
