How to get the outer CV apart? (follow on from BOLTS Rear disc to hub)

Further to my disc bolts thread.

I've got the gaiter off the outer CV and it's not as I thought inside? There's a 3 ball race under a plastic cup. I've cleaned all the old gunk out (bit like runny toothpaste) the shaft springs in and out 40-50 mm of the joint body.

Usually if the shaft is gripped tight in a vice the CV can be tapped off the shaft splines. The circlip at the end of the shaft stays in place, the new boot is slid over the shaft then the CV is filled with grease and the shaft inserted back into the CV (the circlip can be "helped" with a small screwdriver to push it back into its grove) and the whole CV tapped back down the shaft. Then the boot is eased over the CV.

Bearing in mind I still have the disc & hub attached which makes it heavier and more awkward!

IS this the same sort of removal and replacement method. Will the ball race fly out?

Also! Couldn't remember how to post a picture SO I've change my profile picture to show what mines like.

thanks
