Cookie Monster
Thinking of upgrading my headlamps which are best described as candles despite upgraded bulbs.Anybody tried these?https://furoreproducts.co.uk/headlight-3850-lumen-pairThanks

ChrisC
This is closer in style to the ones sold by Caterham http://www.uapac.com/antique/5-3-4-led-headlight-with-white-led-position-light-bar.html

Kensboats7
I had mentioned this before, over in Portugal a few months ago I saw LED head lamp replacements for motorcycle head lamps. They looked as though they would be a simple and direct replacement for 7" head lamps, looked vintage and as I recall cost around 40 euros each. My car has 5.75s so did not give them enough interest re make etc, but suspect they were Chinese made.
Jonathan Kay
There's a lot in the archives on LED headlights (and driving lights (and little lights)). It would be great if someone could trawl and summarise the options.Jonathan
Smithy77
I fitted Cibie 5.75" headlamps (c.£100 pair) and Phillips X-treme Vision +130% bulbs. The difference was, errrm, night and day!
rockinroyston
just had this response back from them... hopefully someone will give it a go before I get to that stage! £1000 from CC sounds a bit steep to me! https://furoreproducts.co.uk/headlight-3850-lumen-pairThey are a straight swap plug wise, I can not say for sure on the housing side having not fitted these to a Caterham myself, the units are supplied with there canbus systems but this is a simple box in the cable that can be disconnected if not needed. They simply need to be plugged in to a H4 connection, all resistors that the lights need are in the lights wiring for the main and dip beam, then it is just a case of wiring up the sidelight and halo, full wiring ijnstructions are sent with the lights
Jonathan Kay
Please can you do some comparison photos of the illumination: before and after, or swap one side and compare L (with R occluded) and R (with L occluded) with fixed camera settings.ThanksJonathan
philwaters
I've fitted those from the original post. I'm happy with them. One thing you need to understand is that the indicators don't work unless you supply the halo all the time - i.e. if you don't run the halo, you don't get the indicators.I decided to run them, and this means you need an ignition feed to the light. Then, in order to stop the rear lights coming on with just the ignition I put a diode in the feed from the light ciruit. A second diode was fitted in the ignition feed so that the side light switch didn't power the ECU.Pictures: http://www.our-nest.co.uk/Temp/Headlights/
Jonathan Kay
Have you got some photos of the forward illumination of the road, please?ThanksJonathan
philwaters
Nothing that you can compare with, no, sorry. It is a much whiter light than my old 'std' bulbs, and they are a lot brighter.

TomB
Do you use the standard front indicator as an indictor, or use it for additional forward lighting? They look impressive!
philwaters
Cookie Monster -http://www.our-nest.co.uk/Temp/Headlights/Indicator%20Left.JPG Tom - They are not on in the pictures, they are just picking up on the nearby light. I haven't removed them, but will do this winter (as well as lowering the lights). The trouble is the mount covers the wiring, so I need to do something there. I also wanted to wait until it had had passed an MOT.
rockinroyston
They look great! my electrical knowledge does not extend to diodes tho :-(
philwaters
Diodes are easy, they are simply a one way valve for electricity. The only tricky bit is picking one big enough - I used a 100V 5A unit which has been fine. They just control the direction of current flow so you can have a couple of wires connected, but power doesn't flow back down wires you don't want it to (like back towards the rear lights or to the ignition from the side lights in this case).Happy to help if advise is wanted - it's a very simple circuit and I've just soldered them inline with the wires I've added.Phil
rockinroyston
Thanks Phil, I'm still waiting for my Kit to arrive so headlights are away off! but I do like to get organised! I will no doubt re contact you when I'm at this stage. They look great tho so I will be going down that route. I assume you have to squeeze in another wire down the wing stay? (for the indicators). Seems to be an issue that everyone has during their build... I'm hoping that once I have the bits in my hand it will all make a bit more sense (heres hoping!).... suffering from build blogg info overload at the moment, but picked up a lot of info that should help no end!Just sent Caterham an e-mail today asking for an arrival date :-(I have my fingers & toes crossed that it will be before xmas... I put the deposit down beginning of July....
philwaters
I did have to adjust the ring on the head lamp to allow it to fit - only about 1mm on the diameter.Have some further pictures: https://goo.gl/photos/a3hTuSVdmXwsWPYV6Good luck with the delivery date and enjoy the build! randybugger
Might be a silly question but are they for right hand drive cars or doesn't it matter?ive noticed the 7 inch ones are available on amazon for £62 each
7 wonders of the world
Most new lights now no longer have the 'kick' making them LHD or RHD specific they simply have a flat dip making them universal, motorbikes and most new tintops have adopted this.My PIAA EVo 80's are flat dip.
