Noisy tillet

Having finally got around to moving the seat back on my car I've discovered that it makes horrendous squeaks against the side panel.

A previous owner had fixed the problem one notch further forward with some black cloth sticky tape stuck to the side which presumably stopped or absorbed any movement (and explains why it was such a struggle to shift the seat backwards).

After a quick look around Halfords I'm struggling to work out what sort of tape this was, anyone got any brilliant ideas?

Ive also got a bad feeling I'm going to have to lift the seat out to drop it back onto the tape rather than being able to slide it back over cos it's so tight, but so be it I guess.

Could it be carpet joining tape .... this has reinforcing threads running through it.

Opps misread the title thought it said noisey toilet - was going to suggest a silentflush....

I tried tape and it wore through quickly. I am now using a piece of self adhesive velcro- the one with the soft loops not the harder scratchy hooks and it has survived several years.

What's the gap with no tape etc in place?

Virtually none, the seat's resting on the side skin, which is why it's going to be a pain to get anything in between.

Thanks. I suppose I really meant to ask how much shimming you want to add. If it's more than c 1mm I'd consider a strip of aluminum covered by the tape rather than asking the tape to do all the compressing.
