Jumpin Jack Flash
Hi,Last weekend I was struck by the difference in "white" between my Sparco helmet, carbon aramidic, 5 years old, and new helmets in the shop.Is there a trick to get an older helmet brand new white again? Other tips for cleaning and maintenance of a helmet are welcome.Jumpin' Jack Flash
Jonathan Kay
The big issue is not using a solvent (or anything else) that causes damage: usual platitude about only being issued with one head.Have you got the manufacturers' instructions already? You're probably going to end up with water, detergent, a microfibre cloth and a toothbrush.Jonathan
CharlesElliott
I clean mine after every race with Plexus. After 10 years my Arai was looking great. I now have a Bell and it is wearing well.
abbot
This is a very dodgy post with a lot helmet polishing going on
andy couchman
It's OK as long as you don't spend too much time polishing the end of your Bell helmet...
Tomiam
Is it ok if someone else is doing it though?
Jumpin Jack Flash
Hi everyone,I use a mild soap, cotton cloth and microfibre to clean it. It is still shiny, no scratches or stains but the problem is that there is a sort of yellow shade on it.I don' t know Plexus? What is it and where do you get it. Bell has some sort of polish, I reckon that is just a mild glaze polish.Ideas are welcome ...
Jonathan Kay
Plexus Plastic Cleaner.I've found a data sheet, but of course it might not apply because the same product name can be used for different formulations. That data sheet says it contains aliphatics, so I wouldn't use it unless the manufacturer of the helmet says it's OK.Jonathan
Clousta
Glider and GA pilots use it to clean perspex canopies. Its effective but pretty mild stuff. I can't see it harming a helmet
Paul McKenzie
I think the white pigmented plastic is likely to have yellowed and discoloured due to the influence of sunlight...and it's probably permanent
Dobson_justin
I have used mr sheen and a duster for 15 years, half of that time on the same Arai helmet, and it is as good as new.
Jonathan Kay
There are lots of products branded as "Mr Sheen" and some of the cleaners contain aliphatics. What are you using?Jonathan
Jumpin Jack Flash
Hi,Plexus is worth to give it a try. If I don' t get the yellow shine away, it is like that ...Long live the polish community.
