Diagnostic help - 2.0 Duratec pushing out coolent

Afternoon all,

I was at Donington on Friday in my 420r and it appears that I am loosing coolant for some reason. I would be interested in folks thoughts as to what may be going on:

- 20 minutes on track, everything fine and car is holding a temp of approx 100 deg on the gauge.

- drive into the garage and as soon as the car stops a puddle of coolant starts growing on the floor

- on taking the bonnet and nose cone off the expansion tank is 100% full and leaking.

- within a minute or two the coolant level drops to about where is should be in the expansion tank

- starting the engine again I can see fluid entering the top of the expansion bottle but the level remains the same (i.e. not filling up again).

- As the ground looked dry until the car stopped it would seem that it is only pushing fluid out when the car is stationary. I'm not sure if turning the ignition off triggered the overflow.

I've had the car a couple of months and have not noticed any leeks under road drving conditions.

Combination of faulty expansion tank cap and air lock = Fit new cap and a bleed T-piece near the heater.

I hadn't found those archives - thanks  for posting the the links. A new cap and a bleed t piece sound like a good way to go

Please take note when you bleed the cooling system if you don't get the bleed T, raise the front of the car so the expansion tank is higher than the heater.
