rgrigsby Posted February 12, 2003 Share Posted February 12, 2003 I'm not sure of the power gains but it will be considerably louder, when new my side exit exhaust was around 97-98dB but after a few enthusiastic track days it gradually got louder and louder as the stuffing was blown out. Ian_Brandon Posted February 12, 2003 Share Posted February 12, 2003 Robert, My crossflow (now sold) had the 4 into 1 and I was given to understand it was worth only 2-3 bhp, but it sounded great and would give a most satisfying backfire on the overun. Mine was noise tested during 0-60 sprints at Brooklands and read 102db. Thats ok for somewhere like Cadwell Park, but their could be problems at places like Goodwood (although for that reason I've never been there). I seem to recall somewhere that in the past I was told that it made a bigger diference in cars that were more highly tuned. It will be noisier. The design of the primaries is important, as they should all be of the same length where possible and should be wider than your standard ones but don't need to be any wider than 1.5 inch at the max on a crossflow. Allan Haighton Posted February 14, 2003 Share Posted February 14, 2003 You may not see any power increase at all. But you will probably find the shape of the torque curve changes significantly. When I put a 4-1 system on, to replace 4-2-1 rear exit system, the torque came in at lower revs, making the car much more tractable. Much nicer to drive.
