Area Representative Nick Bassett Posted August 22, 2016 Area Representative Share Posted August 22, 2016 As an ex-Academy car, wouldn't the engine have had forged pistons added? If so, might be worth adding to your advert.Nice looking car - good luck with the sale.
MarcusH
Hi Nick,Interesting question - though I don't know the answer! Any ideas how I would check?ThanksMarcus
Area Representative Nick Bassett Posted August 23, 2016 Area Representative Share Posted August 23, 2016 Without disassembling the engine, I think the only way would be to use an endoscope - Dave Andrews (DVA) will be able to advise what you need to look for.Failing that - perhaps contact Caterham as they should be able to tell you... then again!! Sorry I can't help anymore, but I do think it is worth pursuing...

Roger Ford
If it only did four races, there's a small chance the original pistons wouldn't have broken up.Do you know who ran it in the 2004 Academy?
MarcusH
It was car 80 - I've googled to find a list of competitors but with no joy.

Roger Ford
There's a list of one of the groups on Charles's web site herehttp://www.academy2004.org/academy2004/archives/pdf/Aintree%20Final%20Results%2024th%20April%202004.pdfNo number 80. I guess that means the car was in the other group (my group).
MarcusH
Just had a light bulb moment - the driver was Chris Hurst - looks like he was in Group 2 from the info in here: http://www.graduates.org.uk/2004/Brands_2004.pdf
