p.mole1
I am thinking of getting hold of a second hand 1.8 or 1.6 K series. Is there anything I need to be aware of, apart from the well known head gasket problem. Is the bottom end robust, Ideally I would like use the standard pistons assuming the are not worn. p.mole1
Hi Jonathon, Yes I found the excellent DVA pages I also bought a copy of Des Hammill's book makes depressing reading and put me off wet liner blocks. However that said I was going to modify my existing 1.4 in the winter as I will have to remove it to cure a gearbox leak. After an Email to DVA I think I will be far better starting with a 1.8 /1.6. Although the 1.4ss is great fun its got nothing below 5000 rpm and its going to be a cheaper way to get more power and make a better road car at least on my budget! If I can find a good one I might just get away with gaskets, piston rings and bolts, plonk on a gas flowed head and fit my ss cams. At least it seems that easy, might have to be careful with the 7600 ECU limiter though.
