Dixa1225
Replaced fan switch due to leaking on a new radiator . Fan will not cut in on new switch . Both Top & Bottom hoses are hot so does not appear to have a airlock . By passing the switch by joining the wires together kicks the fan in .Any advice appreciated
elie boone
did your replacement switch has the same operating temp ? it's marked on the side of it
Dixa1225
Hi Elie , Yep same markings 98-93 purchased from redline
SM25T
I reckon air in top of radiator ... so switch not in the water. Test wiring by removing connector from switch and touching wires together with ignition on. It will spark and fan runs.
SM25T
Ah .... I see you tested wiring. Def air in top of radiator.
garybee
By bypassing the switch you've already tested the rest of the circuit. The switch must be either faulty, not reaching it's switching temperature or not immersed in coolant. Is it possible that there is air in the system where the switch is mounted (Possible with some installations, but I don't know what engine/cooling system you have)? Dixa1225
Hi SM25TYep , wiring fine , joined wires together and fan cut in . Rad is hot top and bottom . Any idea how to remove the airlock ?

Area Representative Paul Richards Posted June 7, 2016 Area Representative Share Posted June 7, 2016 Bleed by opening the bleed screw on top of radiator then remove cap from expansion tank. Be ready to put bleed screw back in as soon as coolant appears. Top up expansion tank as necessary and replace cap.
garybee
I'm not near my car at the moment so can't check. Is there a small hose connector right at the top of the radiator near the fan switch?
Dixa1225
Hi Paul,No bleed screw on top of rad but does have a hose to a t-piece that goes to the expansion bottle , going to take this of and back fill top of the rad .Many thanks

Dixa1225
Just backfilled via bleed hose by fan switch . Still no luck , Beginning to think I have a faulty fan switch
Jonathan Kay
How about testing it with a saucepan of hot water, a thermometer and a multimeter?Jonathan
garybee
"Yes to : Is there a small hose connector"It sounds like you've removed any air from there which is all I was going to suggest. Did coolant spill out (from the rad') when you disconnected the hose? This just leaves you with faulty switch or wrong switch then. Either way the one you have is of no use to you. Before you get another switch though, how sure are you about the temperature reading?
