Which Loctite?

There are many Loctite products.Never used any of them. I understand each one is for a special work, but, If I am to by one (or two) for basic general work on the Seven which one you suggest please.

If the treated bolt is to be removed and will be reused, what to do with the remnant of the old Loctite:

- apply a new layer on top of the old one

- remove the old loctite (?use methylated spirit) before applying a new layer

- no need to top up. One application will last for ever

There's a long answer and a short answer.

• Medium/ Blue.
• Clean it off:  I use a wire bush on a Dremel.

For a Caterham, Loctite 243 is probably all you need. 

You can also get bearing lock and gasket etc, but probably not what you meant.

243 has worked fine all round for me. As well as cleaning used threadlock off bolts, you can clean it out of holes and female threads by carefully running through them with an appropriate size tap.

Or you can make a DIY tap with a suitable bolt and a couple of grooves dremelled into the thread of the bolt perpendicualr to the threads.  I used this technique to clean up the threads of the fuel pump rivnuts mounts. They were so gummed up with old loctite the threads of the bolts were not engaging with the threads in the rivuts.

Brake disc bolts

Caliper bolts

Throttle pedal

(Caterham recommend if for the cage bolts I think, but I wouldn't use it there)
