jonheli
Hi allCan anyone tell me if a standard serial lead will be ok with my Emerald M3DK to laptop connection?Didn't have a lead supplied when I bought the car, and Emerald can supply a lead (with an OBD plug as well which I don't want) for £30, plus nearly £7 p&p, so nearly £40 total for something which I might get cheaper elsewhere (and less P&P for a bit of wire and jiffy bag!)Help as always much appreciated
simon_h
The Emerald lead is not a standard lead the manual says.Just make one, from the instructions in the manual on the website. Couple of 9 pin D plugs and 4 wires.
TomB
As above - a few quid at Maplin and some time with a soldering iron. That said mine is a bit shonky as Im awful at soldering, but it works!
simonpa
I had a couple of standard serial leads and just modified one of them by cutting back the insulation and re-joining a couple of wires. The spec. is on the Emerald website.BTW - Emerald are a great company and provide a lot of support for free, so paying over the top occasionally will help support them! If you give them a call, they may turn out to have the base lead for less.Cheers - Simon
jonheli
Thanks Simon - yes, I did contact them and they were very helpful and supplied just the base lead and sent by ordinary post, so very happy!! As you say, they are a great company, and give great after service!Cheers, Jon
