Brian Deacon
Just looked at the diff with a view to checking the level. The filler/level plug is very close to the DeDion tube. Is there an easy way to check the level, or is this just another get on with it job!
Member Jonathan Kay Posted March 28, 2016 Member Share Posted March 28, 2016 You can move them apart by jacking. Maintenance hints from Alcester Racing 7s.Jonathan
Brian Deacon
Ahh. Jacking where? I had the jack under the A frame.
DJ.
I find it is much easier to remove the rear half of the boot floor, then access from above is a lot easier than from below. It can be done with car on its wheels, but you probably get more clearance by jacking as Jonathan says.Duncan
elie boone
with a hexagon socket witch is 2" long and a short extension it just clears the DD tube, but they can be very tight
SM25T
I take the boot floor out and work from above. Can use jack to get plug to required height. I need a long breaker bar with a hex bit to stand any chance of undoing the plug !
Brian Deacon
Hmm. No sign of a leak, maybe just leave it alone.Front half of the boot floor is plywood and held in place with a few self tappers. The rear half is alloy and seems to be riveted in place , is that normal?
SM25T
Mine both screwed in. Didn't like the wafer thin CC balsa wood ply that was going mouldy in mine ... used it to make a template and make my own out of better external grade ply. .. then treated it to several coats of woodstain. SM25T
You can easily drill out the rivets .... just don't break through into tank !! Replace with spire clips or similar on the angle framework.
