Red warning light on intermittently

Jon, Richard,

My alternators were exactly the same. Standard EU3 Bosch 85A / Rover YLE102430. Believed good before we started and then tested when I got home, working fine.

The alternator plug should be wired as shown below. The two wires are usually "Brown with Yellow Stripe" (warning light circuit) and "White with Red Stripe".(DFM). Can you confirm that your wire colours correspond? Also you describe the wire you tested as "enters the back of the plug adjacent to the flat end of the D" - the warning light circuit should be at the rounded end as shown below and should be brown and yellow.
