fuel filter location

Having previously discussed the merits of fitting an in-line fuel filter, I have now bought a suitable in-line filter.

 

the question now, is where to fit. (and dont say the fuel line!).

 

My own idea is that it should go between the tank and the pump. this way the pump sucks the fuel through it, and the filter will not create any resistance affecting the fuel pressure as it leaves the pump. plus it will protect the pump.

 

the other alternative (obviously) is to fit it after the pump.

 

suggestions? pros and cons?

Does anyone happen to know the inside bore of the fuel line on a 1.8K? I've only had the SV a week and it hadn't occurred to me to check if there is a fuel filter fitted (I'm still at the kissing it goodnight stage - so sad!!)

ive never been at an SV before chris, but the fuel line on my 1.6 is 8mm internal.

 

I got a 'Champion' filter from halfrauds. theyve got a decent range of filters to suit most road cars. i just picked the one that i thought would be big enough to handle the flow, and was a good shape for easy fitting and securing.

its an 'L106' (about 1.5" dia x 2.5" long) only £3.29. bargain.

The fuel filter on an injected engine is always mounted on the pressure side, don't forget that most tintops have the pump inside the reservoir and the fuel filter on an injected engine must always be a metal filter because plastic one's do not withstand the pressure from the fuel pump.

 

Even on a carb. engine i would put the filter in the pressure side, you be surprised what parts can pass trough a fuel pump without any problems.
