James-Seven
whilst driving get down motorway appears flasher relay failed, lights come on but don't flash. At the same time engine warning light came on. Is this related to flasher unit failure or separate issues?
Member Jonathan Kay Posted December 2, 2015 Member Share Posted December 2, 2015 What model and dash... and what's that warning light? Is it the red non-charging indicator that's on before you start and then (usually) goes out?Jonathan
SM25T
Try working the hazard light switch a few times to clean the internal contacts .... and check the flasher unit is still pushed home. Worth pushing all relays home every few months. They do work loose.
James-Seven
Caterham 160. Engine management light stays on. And flashers just stay lit
SM25T
Is it still under warranty ? If so ... you know what to do.
Member Jonathan Kay Posted December 3, 2015 Member Share Posted December 3, 2015 What SM25T says. It's possible that both are caused by one of those faults. But I don't know what the engine warning light is...Have you got a multimeter (:-)) and would you like a wiring diagram?Jonathan
simon_h
Put a scan tool on to see the engine code. Should point you in the right direction if it's a real fault.
Paul Deslandes
apart from hazard switch needing a bit of on/off work, flasher faults are usually either the flasher relay or a bad earth, always assuming the bulbs are okay. Could the engine warning light be a bad earth too?You don't say whether the hazards works correctly.
Trevor A
Be aware that there is a flasher unit and a flasher relay on the fuse board. I had a similar problem of the indicators remaining on when switched. I tried everything to correct but to no avail. Eventually I rang CC who said immediately it was the relay. At that time I only knew of the flasher unit which I had replaced. Worked perfectly after replacing the relay, which is the bigger square thingy in the middle of the fuse board. Hope this helps
