virden Posted October 30, 2015 Share Posted October 30, 2015 As a precaution I took the head off my X/F and fortunately all is well, so a new gasket is all that is required. The car is SORNed and up on wood blocks so I shall not restart it for many months. Numpty Q: Will it make any difference if I torque up the head now but leave the engine unrun for months, or is it better practice to rebuild and then immediately run it? Richard K Posted October 30, 2015 Share Posted October 30, 2015 My Haynes manual says Torque as follows (Lb f ft)1. 52. 21 to 313. 52 to 564. After 10 to 20 mins wait 66 to 715. After engine has warmed up (15 mins at 1000 rpm) tighten up 66 to 71So you could stop after step 4 and carry out final torque down when you are ready to start the car.Richard Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
