Ray Pearce
Yep - the horn press button prises out (but has a wire connected to it) disconnect the wire, undo the nut and then use a ratchet strap between the wheel and the roll bar to prevent getting smacked in the mouth when the wheel suddenly releases from the splines as you are pulling it. (BTDTGTTS)My usual problem is the spring-loaded "pen" that touches the contact ring slipping back through it's mount (this stops the horn working) but yours sounds like there is a short somewhere - possibly the contact ring coming loose as described above. 2004Academy80
Been a while, but I’ve made some progress. Switched relays and it makes no difference. Fitted new horn ring and that to, makes no difference! So it seems there is a short circuit, where is the ground? locate?FYI, it’s the top relay that’s doing all the clicking. Member Jonathan Kay Posted May 13, 2018 Member Share Posted May 13, 2018 Any help in identifying the ground wire would be gratefully receive. Not sure what you're looking for. IIRC the horn circuit is "switched earth" so the switch connects the wire coming back from the horn (or relay) to any convenient local earth, such as the steering column.Jonathan
2004Academy80
To close this issue off, I discovered that I hadn't seated the new horn ring far enough away from the steering wheel hub, so it was making contact. I've now seated the horn ring right up against the dash allowing the required clearance to the steering wheel hub with only the spring loaded copper finger now making contact. Thanks for all the input.
