solstice
Gents advice please, I did a day at Abingdon airfield on Friday, in the afternoon I seemed to have picked up a puncture, so loaded onto the trailer and headed for home, that evening I inflated the tyre to 25psi (I was running 16psi on track), checked it this morning and it was still at 25psi.Is it possible that at the lower pressure with sideways forces the seal between tyre bead and rim could leak and then reseal?Or any other explanantions?ThanksG
Member Jonathan Kay Posted October 19, 2015 Member Share Posted October 19, 2015 Could be an intermittently faulty valve. Was the original deflation soon after checking the pressure? Have you had the wheel off for a really good look?Jonathan
robmar
What wheel / tyre combo....
solstice
It is an 8.5" force racing 2 piece rim and 245 Kumho tyre.I haven't had the rim off yet, not sure if I will find anything as it is holding pressure now.
nickh7
Rubber valves ? If they are long they bend in the corner and bleed out air. I was told this by Gary May and a Pirelli tyre engineer (he worked with the Subaru WRT) and thats why I switched to stainless valves after I had the same issue at Silverstone 25psi is high by 7 standards mind
solstice
Thanks, I'll check, 25 psi was only to check if it was holding pressure when i got home.
robmar
I have never lost tyre pressure on the force running either kumho or avon but have on other split rims hence why I asked. I suspect it was maybe as you initiall suggested that maybe the tyre lost its seal to the rim, in which case the air would come out very rapidly. solstice
Right it does have rubber valves, so I guess first step is to get them changed and see how we go from there.thanks guys
