I have just had my crank ground and was not aware I needed to machine it to fit a duplex chain set. Can anyone advise how / what you machine? dt Posted February 3, 2003 Author Share Posted February 3, 2003 Hello, guys. Well I thought the duplex should fit straight on, and have fitted them like this. But, a few years back, I was told by a very experinced builder that they sometimes had to turn a bit off the end of the first main journal to clear the chain. So I do this.. just about 100 thou deep and 100 thou wide. And feel happier when I look at the very tight clearance.. ind regards David Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
John Posted February 3, 2003 Share Posted February 3, 2003 Yes - you do need to machine the end for a duplex chain. if you look closely, without machining, the chain link pins rub the rear face of the first main bearing carrier ever so slightly.
