Julian H
Does anyone make any lighter weight mats? The stock ones are very thick but I don't really like not having anything on the floor? Thanks
Member Jonathan Kay Posted October 12, 2015 Member Share Posted October 12, 2015 The lightest solution might be... rubber solution. I think this has been discussed, but I'm not sure. Jonathan
Ivaan
I found some thin corded rubber matting at the Stoneliegh Kit Car Show, and cut it to suit.
SM25T
Just cut out a bit the size of each shoe and stick it to the sole of each shoe !! ;-)

Julian H
Hi Lawrence. Since I have not actually removed my original mats, no!I was rather hoping to find a mat made for the purpose in preference to cutting something myself [, painting the floor or having some new soles on my trainers! ]

Area Representative Paul Richards Posted October 13, 2015 Area Representative Share Posted October 13, 2015 I used this It is much thinner than Caterham mats. I chose it mainly because Caterham mats don't fit lowered floors properly, but it is lighter and thinner and easier to fasten poppers to.I cut a paper template first and then cut the mat to suit. A very easy job. I also use it on boot floor. It is much better than carpet which gets wet and takes ages to dry. Also helps a little to stop things sliding around the boot. Bob Shelley
I have nitrogen in my CR500's to save weight!! Looking for a lighter material than PVC for the dust caps, anybody know of any alternative. Please let Julian know as well.
Member Jonathan Kay Posted October 13, 2015 Member Share Posted October 13, 2015 ... if only there were a convenient easily obtainable source of low-density polyethylene in, say, a sort of clingy filmy format... ;-)Jonathan
grumpy the 7th
Go Commando! I removed my mats years ago because of wet under them, I bet if most of you lift your mats there's a damp patch under them.
virden
I second the concerns over harbouring water, I have had bare floors for over seven years with no slips. The other day I used an air line on the dry floor to clear out any dirt along the joint with the chassis and was horrified to find water hiding in seam. LawrenceR
Good choice, you won't even notice they are missing.
Michael Downing
You won't notice. I took my mats out when the first racing season started in 2012, and forgot I still had them in the garage until I read this thread. If anyone wants a set, let me know
