Temprature Gauge Sensor (Zetec)

I have just fitted a new sender for the temp gauge - its still not working. The gauge seems to be ok as I can make the needle move if I earth it. Anybody got any ideas!

 

OIL 7540 *cool* 2L ZETEC (bathroom suite in - no tiles yet)

The temperature sensor on a Zetec is in a plastic housing (early ones were metal). Are you sure the outer body of the sensor is earthed? Usually has an eyelet which the sensor is screwed through. A wire then is earthed to the block. If this wire was missing it would explain your problem.

Thanks Ammo I think that must be it. I am only using one wire as on the old metal type. Like you say the new type is in a plastic housing with 2 spades. I did wonder what the second one was for! Will try in the mornning - Cheers
