fast_cat
The odometer and trip meter stopped incrementing on my analogue speedo recently, although the speedo still works fine.I tried a few resets of the trip meter but no joy. So removed the speedo from the car and checked it out further and a bit of WD40 just to make sure all free. All looked ok and cogs would still rotate manually. So then I used a squared off nail and electric drill and this worked fine - speedo, trip meter and odometer all working and incrementing fine.So I put it back in the car and......speedo works, odometer and trip meter still not incrementing. So is the cable broken ? - maybe the squared off end is not working, but if so how is the speedo still recording the speed ?thanks in advance
Member Jonathan Kay Posted July 26, 2015 Member Share Posted July 26, 2015 I'd guess the mechanical drive to the meters inside the speedometer is on the way out. Perhaps the cable is putting a bit of side force on the drive or the angle at which you tested it is a bit different from how it sits in the car.Fortunately there are some trusted repairers.JonathanPS: So then I used a squared off nail and electric drill..."They all say that, Sir"... :-)
