VDO unit? To test the 'fault', turn the ignition on (but not eng. running), remove the sender spade connector (from lhs upper water rail) and with a piece of spare bared wire short it to earth (ie eng. block). Gauge should show full deflection. If not, guage is U/S. If full deflection occurs then the sender is prob. U/S. Could of course be a wire break, but that's easy to check with multi meter.

 

If gauge is 'iffy', then Mr Joe Cooke at VDO instruments in Brum is your man. I have a direct line number for him somewhere.

Chris, I think the cause was a recently fitted apollo. The water temperature worked fine ok, but the oil never read above 42degrees. This didn't concern me too much until about a week ago when both readings failed to register (I would like to know the temperature of either my oil or my water!!!)

 

Will try your suggestion (but am hoping this is caused by a dodgy connector somewhere and a faulty oil temperature sender in the apollo).

 

One car - 1400 Supersport with 6 gears and clamshell wings. *smile*
