cb4798
I have done a 1000 miles since my build. The car was serviced at around 500 miles by Caterham but I am thinking of doing another check.Any suggestions or what I should be checking, if at all? TomB
That the fuel tank is full and there is full actuation on the right hand pedal? if you looking for a excuse to fettle, a spanner check in the suspension wouldn't do any harm, and would a fluid level check. Check the wheel bearings and they wear in maybe. But you shouldn't need to do much other than enjoy it.
revilla
Use a small mirror to check the smile on your face. If that's OK then it's all going well so far
Area Representative Paul Richards Posted July 16, 2015 Area Representative Share Posted July 16, 2015 Check the amount of grease in front wheel bearings. Most newish cars I've seen have very little/inadequate grease which could lead to early failure.
Member Jonathan Kay Posted July 16, 2015 Member Share Posted July 16, 2015 As above + lights and visual inspection of tyres. Check that you can remove the filler plugs for the gearbox and diff: Maintenance hints from Alcester Racing 7s.Have you got a service schedule planned beyond this? There are a few in the archives, mostly based on James Whiting's.Jonathan
DJ.
Change the oil and filter, because Caterham won't have done it. Duncan
sjmmarsh
Check whether you need wome sleep - 1,000 miles on the day is pushing it...There should be little that needs checking at 1.000 miles - main Gibbs to give you peace of mind would be: fluid levels (engine, gearbox, diff, brake and coolant)m but if no leaks are evident you should be OK soanner check on nuts holding suspension and differential abnormal tyre wear suggesting tracking may be out. Clean the grit out from behind the seats so that they don't get into the runnersSteve

cb4798
Thanks all. I suppose I'm looking for an excuse to put it on axle stands and tinker. I'm missing the fun of the build. I'll just put it on axle stands and check the items mentioned above.
MarcNS
I only know Crossflows and guess you don't have one of those? The manual is fairly good at pointing out things you have to checkI am nearly at 1000 miles on my new Crossflow and plan to turn up the rev limiter! Member Jonathan Kay Posted July 17, 2015 Member Share Posted July 17, 2015 I'm missing the fun of the build.La petite mort! What's on the development list? The most common might be: Improved suspension set-up Remapping Charging and accessory socket Better lights Tool and stuff storage (bags still available) Change the rear wings to nylon bolts.Jonathan
