Rex
I took my seven (2002 SV U.S. spec Zetec) to the Ford garage to be inspected and they tell me it needs a new brake switch, which they do not have. Can anyone tell me how to find the switch on the car? Maybe I can source one through Redline. Thanks to anyone who can help.
colindavies56
Is it not at the top of the brake peddle,or in the peddle box. Do the brake lights work.
SM25T
Usually under the pedal box cover. You can use any switch that fits in the bracket. You can also carefully prise the end cover off the switch and catch the spring. Take out the little brass u-shape bit and clean off the grease. Squeeze the ends of the 'U' so they touch the contact at the back end of the switch. Reassemble .... noting the spring only goes one way round. Area Representative Paul Richards Posted July 9, 2015 Area Representative Share Posted July 9, 2015 Brake light switches are poor quality and often fail. A better quality one is available from Car Builder Solutions.
Jonathan Kay
As above + I'd check that the problem is in the switch before changing it or fettling. Do you have a multimeter? If not short the terminals on the switch and see if the lights come on. Check the mechanical action of the pedal on the switch. Note SM25T's comment about catching the spring. It's contractually bound to make a bid for freedom as soon as the switch is opened, and some are never seen again.Jonathan
SM25T
If split pin on clutch pedal top touches brake light switch terminals while brake pressed, it will take out fuse for brake and reverse lights. Turn switch 90 degrees to avoid contact.
