Paul Thompson
I have toasted the GSXR enginre in my Fireblade and need a replacement. Has anybody installed a ZZR1400 or should I follow the herd and put in a Busa?
Area Representative Richard Price Posted June 22, 2015 Area Representative Share Posted June 22, 2015 If the car was originally a Fireblade, does it have a live axle? If so, what diff ratios are available?Looking at available engine revs and gear ratios (in particular, primary reduction) will be very significant in alternative engine/'box choice. With dedion cars 'busa's easily run out of revs on anything but the shortest tracks unless they have the tallest 3.14 Sierra diff ratio. Simon.Rogers
I might have a spare 3.14 diff or 2 two sell to a luck builder / converter However Pauls car is a live axle!
elie boone
The TR7 automatic had the 3.27 CWP but you need to ask R&R or Jigsaw to confirm it would fit the Ital axle. Maybe not on the Ital carrier but as a whole diff unit. BTW i think an R1 unit would be the cheapest of all.
Paul Thompson
Thanks for the debate on gearing ... that might of been the problem on 21 inch tyres it was hitting 11000 at the end of the Kemel straight even though it went pop at the Bus Stop but it still dosen't solve the problem Busa or ZZR? robmar
Paul - is it an original caterham/JW fireblade? If so IMO keep it as a fireblade. Then look to buy/build a busa/ZZI guess the decision is...Busa - well known and available, easy to get installation parts, highly tunable, plenty of support around, the known issues are well known and solveable...ZZR - if you want the engineering challenge and have something slightly different...I don't know much about the ZZR to comment on its suitability in a 7...Also do you use it for racing/trackdays/road?Rob
