Duckpit
I have finally taken the crossflow out and struggled to put the zetec in but:1. The chassis bar at the front going from top left to bottom right fouls the alternator.Do I really have to take this bar out and move it from top left to bottom right ?2. I have an alloy bellhousing which allows mounting of starter motor on either side. This is fouling the chassis bar running from back to front on the drivers side. Do I need to cut my bellhousing to make it fit ?3.The clearance between nose cone an verniers is tiny - Is this OK ?Thanks in advance, I am going to have a swarfega bath and a few malts !! Gun Bunny
I can only answer question 3.On my blacktop Zetec the nose cone sits about 7mm above cam pulley. I can increase this gap but this then gives me problems with sump / road clearance.Olly
Drumster
Blacktop for me too in a 1993 chassis. No issues at all with chassis tubes. Alternator is on the drivers side amd starter motor is on passenger side, probably nearer 10mm clearance on nosecone
Duckpit
Thanks guys Do you have a tube at the front going top left to bottom right, just in front of alternator on drivers side ? Nick
Drumster
Not totally sure which chassis tube you mean but if you have a look on my website (scroll down to 14th and 15th line of photos) you'll see the bare chassis in all it's glory.
Duckpit
No you dont have the tube, the front of the chassis is different
Drumster
Ah ok. For reference my chassis is a 1993 de dion. Is yours a live axle?
Duckpit
A 95 Live axle yes N
Gun Bunny
Im a 91 live axle, but cant picture the chassis tubes you mention. Also running with alternator on drivers side & starter on passenger side with just enough clearance.Olly
Duckpit
OllyThanksI cant see how you paste pictures !Mine doesnt have the cruciform structure at top, so I guess my chassis is different. The bellhousing problem is because it is off an RS2000 and has bulges both sides, starter is on passenger side but bulge on drivers side means it is fowling the member running to the front Nick

zetec
Your is the same as mine- use a shorter (4 tooth) pulley & it"ll fit- 4 tooth belt too. i have the straight bar & diagonal as you have .
Duckpit
Hi Zetec Sounds a clever solution, so 2 tooths on the crank pulley and water pump dont get used ?Please could you tell me where you get the pulley from and what length belt you have. Much appreciated Nick
elie boone
I think that the X-flow engine and Zetec are roughly in the same position and if you use a RS 2000 bellhousing on a X-flow you need to cut some material from 1 bulge.
Duckpit
Ah but it was Ok on the xflow, I have bought a new one from Tiger so much cheaper than other sources
