Member Jonathan Kay Posted June 1, 2015 Member Share Posted June 1, 2015 Could you add a photo of the peg thing? I haven't seen one that doesn't screw tight.Jonathan

SM25T
Look for screw nipple on eBay. Cost pennies. .... and are ideal for this application. I keep a few in my tool bag.
SM25T
You could use a single screw type electrical connector on the cable the rear side of the pedal tube.
Member Jonathan Kay Posted June 1, 2015 Member Share Posted June 1, 2015 I give up, how does that lock on the cable? Does the sleeve jam in some way?Jonathan
Delbert
SM- Guess I will i JK - At least I am not the only one who cannot see how to use it Next question - when Jason built my car he has covered the cable in heat shrink cable protection Any reason for this ? Paul Deslandes
the spring sleeve slides over the top of the pedal rod to lock the cable in place. Drop the new cable end into the slot in the top of the pedal rod with the nipple inside. Then slide the sleeve over the rod so that the throttle cable comes out through the enlarged part of the slit in the sleeve. This should stop it jumping out.Edited to add, if the clip doesn't have a slit, pass the cable though the hole which I think I can see in the photo, then do as above - hopefullyPaul

simonpa
The ones I have had are just crimp on.I just drop the peg/cable into the throttle pedal tube, then squeeze the pedal tube at the top in order to close the end of the slot and stop the peg jumping out. Delbert
Funnily enough was just about to post that exact same commentrang them up and I am now cursing my poor ( old) eyesightThere is a grub screw that tightens rather effectivley onto the cable , its inside the sleeve as opposed to protruding ! simonpa
Doh!It may also be worth melting some solder/epoxy/hot glue in the connector, to help stop it coming apart.
Delbert
Oh and belt and braces , I fitted 2 ! Why hey does it seem to be a regular problem in Caterhams , the last cable lasted less than 5000 miles ,i have run Volvos for over 250k and never replaced a cable
Drumster
Never replaced a cable on the x/flow (59K) or the Zetec (27K)......
SM25T
Usually misalignment .... especially at the pedal end. Cable path should be straight and smooth.
