MartinH
Evening All,I am having some of the new Caterham Apollo wheels delivered to a tyre supplier tomorrow to have some Avon ZZSs fitted. I have seen somewhere that a few people had issues with the balance weights fouling on the de dion ears. Can anyone tell me what instructions I should give the tyre place to avoid this as they won't have my car in the garage?CheersMartin
Mark w
Well Martin , having just had two rear ZZR tyres fitted on Apollo wheels this morning I can tell you that the balance weights need to be fitted circa 25 mm in from the edge of the inner rim .Unfortunately mine were fitted circa 20mm in and rubbed !!! All sorted now
Silverback
Hi Martin,I assume you got this sorted ok. As Mark said, about 25mm in from the part of the wheel that is furthest from the kerb (trying to describe as best as possible) and as close to the inside of the rim on the part of the wheel that is closest to the kerb.Having some tyres changed over as I type so if you are stuck, post again and I will see if I can upload a picture from my mobile.Matthew
Steve T
Just make sure they clean the rim very well with solvent before sticking the weights on as half of mine fell off the next day before even seeing the car, and the rest came off easily. It was down to some kind of polish, sheen on the brand new wheels which were still in the boxes. Once we took all the weights off and cleane the rims properly the replacement weights stuck fine. I had 2 x 8" and 2 x 6" black diamond cut apollo's.
6speedmanual
Many tyre balance machines have options for weight placement including rim centreline.
MartinH
For some reason I did not get notified when the replies came in on this thread. User error I suppose! But thanks for the replies. The tyre fitter placed them right on the inside edge and indeed the rears fouled on the De Dion ears. Took them back and they moved them about 4-5cm inside and all well now.CheersMartin
