carbon fiber crash beneficiary?

A friend was recently rounding the fastest sweeping turn @ Willow Springs Raceway (approx. 100mph)when clouted on the right rear by a miscreant in an Alfa spyder; who then managed to clout him a second time now successfully destroying his right front wheel and various suspension bits. The luckless victim then exited the track backwards at an unreduced speed. Fortunately he is none the worse for it. Not so for his 7. *thumbdown* He had just passed the alfa and was forced to slow in the curve for 2 cars ahead of him jockeying for their different slower lines---that being the only reason the alfa could approach him. The offending driver later offered the explanation: "I didn't see you". 🙆🏻 So, why am I telling you this story? Well this gives the unfortunate gent who suffered this display of visual incompetence a shot at an upgrade: CARBON FIBER WINGS ALL THE WAY AROUND. The questions which must now be asked: 1. How much weight is actually saved on each fender(front & rear)?; and 2. What options are available other than Caterham offering high quality @ a fair price (VFM)? Oh, and it seems that before the weekend was finished Mr. Alfisti had another incident which rendered him a pedestrian. *thumbup* Please take pity upon this fellow 7er by donating a few precious moments to offer some of the your valuable collected wisdom on carbon fiber. Thank you very much, in advance!! And, PLEASE, schedule a USA 7 tour so that we may all run Willow Springs without being forced to run with lesser makes! *cool*

You only save a few kg's. And if you are doing trackwork then the added expense of breaking a wing may be an issues.

There are at least 2 other "suppliers":

Arnie Web used to supply wings from some blokes dog he met in a park *wink* And may or may not have spares. Arnies wings are supposed to be very good, and some may have even sold their Caterham wings to swap for his.

Joachim Westerman 0f Mog Racing also sells Carbon parts. His would appear to be cheaper and lighter than Caterham ones. His site is here:

Beware that both these poeple had a bit of a spat last year on this forum, so be prepared for some interesting answers.

Mail me off line if you want more info.
