Help needed - L7C member broken down - K Series coolant issue

Help required!!!

Fellow forum member Sam Allen (sallen43) has broken down about 15 miles from Chepstow. He has a 1.8K. He has no internet access but has text me the following: "Car overheated with split water coming from expansion tank. Filled it back up and ran it with the cap off and water came over the top of the expansion tank in slow surges. He let is cool down and the level dropped right down. He filled it back up and proceeded 3 miles where the temp gauge reading went down and the leak occurred again as before."

Any ideas? Some form of air lock?

if it had run properly for a reasonable time in the past and nothing had been touched on the cooling system it could be faulty expansion cap but possibly head gasket issues .........

Assuming he has a heater, disconnect top matrix hose and fill expansion tank till water pours from matrix and top hose, replace top hose.

if needed top up expansion tank.

run engine, if it boils up again refer to Mark W's post

Any updates ? We are in Chepstow tonight. Could look at it in daylight. I have a spare expansion cap. Ian

Thanks all,

Bottom hose stone cold despite the overheat. Not sure if stuck 'stat or headgasket. Either way Sam has called out the AA. Will keep you posted of developments.

And yes, he was on his way to tomorrow's F&C run. I'm heading down tomorrow morning so look forward to seeing those of you attending then

Hopefully an airlock ... if he has done anything recently and not chased them out.
