glasgow
While the heater is out, I thought it might be the time to fix the sealant at the bulkhead/scuttle in order to prevent water leak into the footwell.Tried to remove the old silicone but not an easy task because some of the silicone is in difficult to reach areas (for exaple behind the ECU). I will need to leave the old silicone in these areas. My question is: any suggestion for good preparation before I put the new silicone-if I use white or methylataed spirit to clean around, I may risk damaging the old silicone.Thank youAhmed
SM25T
No ..... meths won't damage old silicone sealant. I use black silicone on my black panels.
glasgow
Errmm, when I was replacing the bathroom shower silicone, I used meth spirit to "dissolve" any remnants of the silicone
SM25T
It doesn't do that. There is a solvent marketed as silicone remover that does soften it.
Area Representative Paul Richards Posted March 19, 2015 Area Representative Share Posted March 19, 2015 AhmedOnly a couple of screws to remove ECU. Would make the job easier and neater.
glasgow
Never thought about this, Paul. Anything I need to watch for? I take it all the sockets will be left undisturbed.
SM25T
Yes .... just undo the mounting screws and move units out of the way, leaving them connected.
