solstice
I have always oiled foam filters on enduro bikes, I assume the airfilter in the caterham should be oiled after washing??ThanksGareth
Member Jonathan Kay Posted March 17, 2015 Member Share Posted March 17, 2015 Yes. There's a Piper kit, and the cheapest I've seen it is... £9.36 at Caterham Parts. But if someone could tell us what oil to use...Jonathan
solstice
Thanks, I've washed it in a bucket of hot water and fairy liquid, have got an aerosol of filter oil in the shed so will give it a squirt with that
Julian H
I have been advised that WD40 is okay.
Grandmaster Flatcap
How often should this be done?
Mavic82
I would say WD40 is not ok, the oil used is specifically designed not to be flammable.that stops the foam filter catching fire if the car spits back.
Member Jonathan Kay Posted March 17, 2015 Member Share Posted March 17, 2015 That Pipercross cleaner and oil kit is £13.86 including delivery from Caterham Parts, and £11.69 on eBay.Jonathan

solstice
Most motorcycle dealers do oil for foam filters, aerosol is much easier to apply (don't ask how I know!)
Roger Ford
If (in the name of science!) you've ever tried breathing through an oiled filter and an unoiled one, you might conclude that you're likely to gain power through not oiling them. The air filter on my old Moto Guzzi used to consist of chicken wire over the carb inlets. Would possibly prevent errant sparrows from being sucked into the engine, but anything smaller was fair game.K-Series engines might somewhat finer tolerances than Moto Guzzis, but I reckon they can probably cope with anything fine enough to get through the paper in the air filter. k.russell
I Use the piper cross kit, comes with a detergent to clean and an oil to lightly coat.
