Mexman
R300 k-series, not had the car long, been out today, and noticed the oil pressure at about 30 mph in traffic is only about 2 bar or just over, much the same at idle. Once I got up to about 50 - 60 mph it goes up to about 4 bar, it's the low reading I'm wondering about is that correct. The car has an Apollo oil tank if that makes any difference?Simon. elie boone
Sounds about right to me, i guess a warm engine and 4th gear ?
Mexman
Yes warm, I just thought the 2 bar was a bit low, in fairness I've only driven the car a few times, but didn't remember it being that low before, although today's temp is much higher than when I've been out previously, if that makes a difference. SM25T
That is all good.
DJ.
Oil pressure is related to engine speed, if you'd been in a lower gear it would have been higher.
Gnockoff
If you have the original electric gauge and sender, they are notoriously unreliable.
SM25T
Indeed ... go mechanical with a nice 270-degree needle sweep.
Area Representative Piers300 Posted March 8, 2015 Area Representative Share Posted March 8, 2015 I have an R300K and I am on my third oil pressure sender. They are notoriously bad, so either buy a new one and get a big improvement in pressure displayed or go mechanical, which is what I will do next time.Piers
SM25T
Going mechanical will cost less than one notoriously unreliable sender.
Mexman
How big a job is it to fit the mechanical one, and where would be the best place to buy one?Simon.
SM25T
Very simple to fit. Think Auto sell them. 7erry here also sells the kit ... if he has stock ? Will nudge him.
Jonathan Kay
There's a parts list in this Guide. (And here's Shaun's general Guide on oil systems.)I can't remember seeing a step-by-step guide: if you do this how about writing one with pictures?Jonathan
