Piston ring question

I'm rebuilding my K series with Accralite forged pistons and am fitting the piston rings with no instructions. The oil rings are straight forward. The two compression rings have no "TOP" markings. There is a ring with a small step in it which I assume is number two (middle) and is fitted with the step to the bottom. There is a copper coloured ring which I assume goes on the top of the piston. This ring appears uniform in shape ( to my eyes) but appears to have a small mark close to the gap. I assume this mark should face up.

Can anyone confirm?

Err.. With respect, that is incorrect, the ring with recess is not a ridge dodger (which would only be on a top ring). The ring is a Napier scraper and the ridge/recess goes at the bottom of the ring. Any markings are always to the top face of the ring, so the top rings should be fitted with the mark upwards.

Oily
