Julian Bradley
...comes on ever brighter over 3000 revs. Goes out when engine is at idle. Car starts & goes fine. 1700 Xflow. Alternator? Wet electrics? Any ideas? I'm sure there is an obvious solution that is beyond the hard of thinking such as I.
strongy
This has happened twice to me very recently. Same model as yours. First was an alternator with worn out diodes, but I had a spare so I fitted it, but after 300 miles same thing started to happen albeit at higher revs (6000). This was down to a burnt connector (top one nearest the manifold) which I replaced and is now fine. I am considering a heat shield between the alternator and the manifold along with a reduced sized pulley to try and "slow down" the alternator. Happy hunting, cheers Strongy - go on, wake the neighbours. 😬
Julian Bradley
Many thanks - I'll check out the connectors first. I already have a heat shield on the starter motor, but will repeat for the alternator.
