Sam Monoogian
Not in a position right now, but just the sort of car I'd like in the future - looks great. One question though - why the heater?
Myles
Maybe because Charlie lives up here in Edinburgh and not in balmy Worthing?(Mind you, so do I - and my BEC has resisted having a heater fitted so far. Not sure how much longer though)
charlie_pank
Well, no-one's bought it yet. Is that because it's too expensive or too fast?
AntonyH
If I was looking to swap our SV for an S3, your car would be top of the list - sounds epic and I'd find the difference in values, albeit I'd probably have a feeble attempt at haggling. Not that I'm an expert car valuer...

AntonyH
Only one who was pondering a 7 recently. Sadly despite having various cars pointed out to him, he then went and bought a restoration-ready Midget. And apparently now, an MG TF of all things. Can't help some folk... The_ASH
According to Mr Clarkson it was the sports car for people who knew nothing about sports cars, a bit harsh perhaps and oh so cheap now, not an Abingdon MG though :-(As above IF I had the wonga I'd also have beaten a path to your door. There is nothing like a BEC, well, apart from another one that is...

charlie_pank
I had a guy who was interested a little while ago. I made the mistake of putting my foot down when I took him for a drive. He went very quiet from that point in the drive and I didn't hear from him again. Anyone got the cahones for this car?
Julian H
You have missed one of the most important items from your sales pitch... how much does it weigh?
Ivaan
Charlie's is a " modern" version of my R1 car. ( see Jan 2015 Lowflying - Weight circa 380kg, 160 bhp.)Mine's based on a 1988 live axle chassis, with the older carburetor engine. It's a very exciting drive, 12,500 rpm, sequential box and a great soundtrack. Happy to pootle about at 30, or accelerate to 60 in less then 4 secs. Track days, blats and touring with Japanese reliability. With a de-dion chassis and fuel injection ( approx 20 bhp more then mine ), Charlie' car must be epic, though I've never seen it in the flesh. No dry sump needed. Spares are easily available and cheap. Why there's not more R1 7s about, I can't fathom. Just these two that I'm aware of.If anyone wants to experience a similar car, but can't get to Charlie's, I'm happy to show them over mine. Then you'll be heading north to bite his hand off.Clive. Julian H
With those sort of numbers I am sure it's hoot to drive but my K will have to do for now.
charlie_pank
I haven't weighed it, so all I can say is: about 65kg less than it did as a K-series:K-series engine+gearbox: 130kgR1 genesis engine+gearbox: 65kg

The_ASH
If the figures suggested are indeed right, 180hp and 400kg its 450 hp per tonne... jeepers! No wonder you scared him off.
Ivaan
My offer still stands if anyone wants a look over a R1 BEC before heading to the far north. Clive.
shn7
Charlie is indeed the second owner as he bought it from me when it was about 18 months old. I built it to compete int he 2001 Academy finishing 2nd at the end of the season. At that time it had no damage whatsoever apart from IIRC 2 small stone chips on the RHS panel. The Kawasaki Green was factory (TSK I guess) painted from new.I've not seen it since I sold it but I'm sure it must be a great drive with the R1 engine. charlie_pank
Given that you can pick up the engine and gearbox by yourself, I'm going to stick my neck out and say a lot less than almost every other 7 out there.

Area Representative Golf Juliet Tango Posted March 4, 2016 Area Representative Share Posted March 4, 2016 No, it's because I already have the Crossflow and the 21 and a third car, let alone another Caterham isn't really an option (nowhere to put it for a start).
