CharlesElliott
Assuming that Comma make the gearbox oil for Caterham, does anybody know which is the Comma equivalent? The Caterham bottle is light on info, apart from 'semi synthetic'.I tend to use Caterham oil but these days they are out of stock too often....EDIT: Type 9, 5 speed box, brass synchros
Member Jonathan Kay Posted February 16, 2015 Member Share Posted February 16, 2015 Whenever this comes up I feel we never quite resolve it.From various Caterham Guides: Caterham gearbox oil GL4 grade Under no circumstances use GL5 grade oil Caterham Gearbox Oil EP80 grade Does this thread help?Is there anything in the Club Guides?Jonathan
CharlesElliott
That thread is what I also found and is helpful. Although for some reason I had in my head that the Caterham oil was 75W-80; not sure why I had that in my head though....
Mrp
Hi CharlesWhen I asked the same I gotGearbox 75w80 GL4. Comma or Redline MTLDiff EP80w90 GL5 or LS80w90 GL5 if running LSD. CharlesElliott
Thanks - although now we are back to 75W-80 in some lists and 75W-90 in others. Not that it probably makes much difference!I just looked at the Haynes gearbox manual for the Type 9, and that says:Gear oil, viscosity SAE80EP, to Ford spec ESD-M2C 175-A (Duckhams Hypoid 75W/90S)So that has me leaning towards 75W/90. Although if I try hard enough, I can find references to 75W/80 too!Charles
Member Jonathan Kay Posted February 16, 2015 Member Share Posted February 16, 2015 Thanks - although now we are back to 75W-80 in some lists and 75W-90 in others.
