Alex Birtwisle
After fitting the Apollo tank I sat down with Mav at the local Indian and between us we got very confused with one single question: What path does the oil take when you have an Apollo tank 🤔 Is it sucked through the system or is it pushed through the system? Where is the pump in relation to the filter and the Apollo tank? Is the Apollo tank under pressure? How does the breather "breath" if the tank is at pressure and the cam/cover is at atmospheric pressure (i.e. at lower pressure than the tank)? Is the cam gallery at atmospheric pressure or is it a slight vacuum? You see our problem. Dave Hooper has added to our confusion. Many thanks Alex & Mav (and Hoopy who is also perplexed) S713UMY 1.8K Viper Blue and Black Edited by - abirtwisle on 18 Jan 2003 22:20:
scooby dooby doo
i got confused because if the cam cover and tank breath at each other a bit (can only be a bit as the bore is small) then the apollo can't be presuurised +ve or negative. but it is cos its spurts if you leave the breather off. *confused* *confused*Â HOOPY 500 kg R706KGU

Allen Payne
The oil flows from the pump into the side of the Apollo tank, out the bottom of the tank, through the oil filter and then on into the engine oilways to feed the cams, bearings etc.  The pump picks oil up from the sump. Any air in the oil is feed from the top of the tank to the cam cover via a very small hole so as to maintain as much oil pressure as possible. I thought Hoopy discovered that the tank was pressurised when he started the engine without the top hose on the tank and saw a six foot fountain of oil . Or was that someone else. Regards Allen
scooby dooby doo
i did discover it was pressurised. I decided not to charge for rust-proofing the nearby rusting audi though..  how come the apollo doesn't pressurise the cam cover area through the breather 🤔  HOOPY 500 kg R706KGU
