andy couchman
Changed mine (Ital axle) for lighter Hi Spec units and sure I could feel the difference. Maybe unsprung wight makes more of a difference than I'd thought?Andy
LesG
Can I ask if you are considering swapping the Sierra calipers for alloy VW Golf versions?
Chris Perry
LesG,Yes, i am in the process of swapping the Sierra calipers for VW Golf Mk 4. The VW Golf are about 1 kg lighter for the pair over the standard Sierra.Regards,Chris Perry
TomB
Just researching further weight savings and I found this thread....Im shortly fitting the HiSpec 4 pot calliper to the front which saves 2kg each side of unsprung weight. Considering something similar on the rear, so options would be to stick with HiSpec who do a Sierra compatible rear calliper with handbrake mechanism, or maybe these Golf ones could be an option? It cant be a simple as a bolt on calliper can it? Basically looking to reduce unsprung weight to help get the most from my expensive Ohlins. Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted January 31, 2018 Leadership Team Share Posted January 31, 2018 Do you mean this one?
TomB
That what Id spotted. Its will likely save a couple of kilos each side unsprung, and also at the outside edge of the axle which is probably also beneficial in terms of mass distribution. Ill have to see how I get on with the fronts first - I need to buy some pads first and get them fitted!
Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted January 31, 2018 Leadership Team Share Posted January 31, 2018 If you're focussing on unsprung weight, as much as I like the SLR wheels you'll need to swap to MB's and fit CR500's or ACB10's ... the difference is immense.Stu. TomB
I know - but lots of £££. There were a flurry of them for sale last year shortly after Id finished restoring the SLR wheels, when Id had enough of buying, restoring and polishing wheels! Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted January 31, 2018 Leadership Team Share Posted January 31, 2018 I'd honestly stick to the SLR wheels though, I'm fine with the extra weight giving greater strength on our pot-holed roads. You need them in black though ...Stu.
