jackb_ms
Hi allI have an issue with my Audi A6, it is down on power by a huge amount.I've changed the air mass sensor which seems to have help a little. The next job I'm planning is cleaning the EGR.I was thinking of giving it a soak in BBQ cleaner chemicals and then using a toothbrush to finish. Is using BBQ cleaner a good idea?Jack
CharlesElliott
What generation of A6? Have you done a scan using VCDS?Have you checked that the turbo vane actuator is working?
jackb_ms
its a 2003 2.5 Tdi V6how do you the check the turbo vane actuator is working?I have done a scan and it could have been a air mass sensor issue I'll do an other scan and check if the fault appears Jack
CharlesElliott
I have played with these cars quite a lot, just sold mine!If it is massively underpowered I'm surprised there is no code; are you scanning it with VCDS or a generic scanner? You can move the turbo vane actuator by hand, it should be smooth. If someone starts the car whilst you watch it, it should move from one stop to another relatively quickly. Not sure about barbecue cleaner, I'd use carb cleaner (or even EGR cleaner). jackb_ms
I have VCDSI just took the car for a quick spin after I change the MAF.I need to remove the valve to work the VTN, is that correct?Jack
jackb_ms
I've remove the valve from its barcket and the rod goes up and down. However when the engine is runing I cannot see it movingDo you know if there is a fault code when the valve is not working?Jack
CharlesElliott
Jack - what engine code is it. AKE?If it is, you should need to remove anything to move the VNT. If the rod wasn't moving/working, you should get a 00575.You can test the actuator using VCDS. Or when you start the car, the rod will move - but you'll need someone else to start it as it will have moved by the time you get round. When you kill the engine, it should flip back. The VNT is controlled by the vacuum from the N75. Have you checked for vacuum leaks?
jackb_ms
HelloI think I had 00575 the engine is an AKEI asked my wife to play with the loud pedal ( those engine our loud), and I could here a slight hissing noise from somewhere, by the N75 there is a plastic T piece that was broken.I replace that tomorrow.I could move the rod by hand when the VNT was attached to the turbo, I undid the 2 bolt holding it and the rod moves freely. however when fitted back I cannot move it.how easily should it move?To check the N75, should i use this youtube vieo https://www.youtube.com/watch?annotation_id=annotation_1342673755&feature=iv&src_vid=J6b1R0k9BFE&v=mo6qC9PIuJU as a guide?Jack
CharlesElliott
Looks sensible. The VNT is normally not that easy to move. When you start the car, it will move to its stop one way. When you stop it, it will go back. I wouldn't expect it to move when reving the car in neutral.Sounds like you have a vacuum leak which would definitely contribute to the problem.Charles
jackb_ms
Vacum leak it was!Bodge a repair, the piece which broke was a little T piece in plastic. Replaced it with a halford T piece which is sbit small. The propr part should arrived on the 23rd Jack
