Leadership Team 700newtons Posted December 12, 2014 Leadership Team Share Posted December 12, 2014 I have relatively easy access to the drain plug and filler plug of my 160. However, the level plug is awkward to access in the transmission tunnel (it is 3/8” square hole, but I can't squeeze a wrench in). The handbook says the capacity should be 1.2LI'm going to measure the volume of oil carefully and just fill it.Any wisdom gratefully received.... SM25T
Can you make a round hole in the wall of the tunnel to access it .... then fit a rubber grommet to fill the hole ?
Area Representative Paul Richards Posted December 12, 2014 Area Representative Share Posted December 12, 2014 Can you cut down a wrench to fit?LADS top tip:-To fill - use a normal oil can (readily available from Halfords/Machine Mart) with a bit of clear plastic pipe (as used for windscreen washers) pushed on the end. Jonathan Kay
I'd work out the access while you're still building. You need to be able to check the level. You've got the two main options* already suggested above. You could also use a dipstick through the top cover if it has one.Jonathan* And I've posted my canoeish experiences with a cut-down key and a ratchet spanner... Leadership Team 700newtons Posted December 13, 2014 Author Leadership Team Share Posted December 13, 2014 Thanks for the ideas. For starters, I think I'll try to fashion a slimline wrench from a short length of 3/8” square steel from eBay and a spanner.Simon
NedK
Dumb question: if you've got a filler and drain plug, what's the point of a level plug? A dipstick would be less hassle, I'd have thought. It's possible that this was easy to get to in the Suzuki original, but is inaccessible in a 7 chassis.I could very easily be wrong about all the above
