Titanium7
Standard R500 KBattery indicating 12.84v with everything switched offFire up the engine to a steady tickover and battery showing 12.4vRev a little up to 1500-2000rpm and the voltage jumps to 14.3v and then stays there even at tickover. It appears I need a little engine speed increase before the alternator suddenly starts to send the charging voltage. Is this....1. A sign of a failing Alternator2. A bad earth3. Or TADT
Member Jonathan Kay Posted December 7, 2014 Member Share Posted December 7, 2014 Might be normal. Do R500s have pulley sizes designed for higher engine speeds?Jonathan
Mankee
That's normal as far as I'm concerned. The alternator setups on our cars (regardless of the actual model of alternator) seem to need a bit of a blip to excite them into charging, especially more so if they have been underdriven with smaller crank and larger alternator pulleys. Dr Slotter
Yep, I would say that is normal.
Adrian Williams
It's normal, standard alternator doesn't start charging until the engine has had a blip.
