robmar
Am considering a set for the coming sprint season and was wondering if they are really worth it over a harder road compound in terms of perfromance and time gain 🤔 also how many sprints would I get out of a set 🤔 rob
Andrew Russell
Before you invest in the new tyres, I presume that you have checked that ACB10s will be allowed in your intended Class? Many sprints/hillclimb classes insist upon road tyres only. With ACB10, altho' road legal, you might find yourself in a class for 'racing tyred cars'. Hope that I'm not seeming to teach you to suck eggs?? Andrew
robmar
yep they are legal it is the class 3 for the l7 club sprints rob
rgrigsby
Guess I'm definetly going to have to get a set now!!! I've never used sprint ACB10's but the harder compound ones seem to take 2-3 laps of a circuit to get up to temperature on a warm day so I guess on a sprint they'd be fairly hopeless. Gary Furst
Robmar, I can't comment on sprinting but they definitely make a difference in circuit racing. There are however 3 compounds, the softest is for sprinting/hill-climbing, the middle grade which I use is for circuit work and the hardest grade (which I believe Westfield use as their race control tyre) which may not provide a worthwhile benefit to you. The middle grade will generally last maybe 300 miles of circuit racing (the unladen tyres last maybe 600 miles), but if you talk to BMTR (Paul Smith) on 0121 3311122 you'll get more data. You can also look at the cooper-avon web site.
robmar
Rgrigsby - your missig the point, and it was that I needed them to get closer to your times, so if you get them there is little point If I do get some I will let you know what compound etc Gary - will do , can you explain what unladen means 🤔 rob
WILL FLY
I assume he mean undriven i.e. the fronts, Geoff Northcott has various bits for sale if Speedy Steve doesn't snaffle them up first. You already missed the race dampers. Roy See willfly.net for more info. If you don't spin you ain't trying

Darryl S.
I'm using the A24 ACB10's (sprint/hillclimb compound) here in Aus on my PRB. Their great, I'd say well within 1/4 of a lap your up to temps (whereas my old AO32R's in S compound took a good lap to stop sliding around). Would be interesting to compare them to the A32/33 compound (which I may end up having to purchase if I want a comparison).
Alex Wong1697456877
They're good but very limited in their application - At curborough mine are overheating if I do two double lappers back to back. I use a set in a year (they go off well before they're worn out) - the repeated hot/cold cycle plus they do not like being overheated. Haven't tried them back to back with the medium compound but Gordon has. Rob - you're eligable for class 3 aren't you? Grigsby vs Cardew. I can hardly wait. It'll be close! Powderpuff
medium compound just about lasted for the 3 events last year....maybe I'm a little harder on my tyres than Alex.........which is surprising when you consider the Vx weight penalty
robmar
Alex - yep class 3. My plan is to use them just for the sprints this year, I have cr500's for the road/wet and some slicks for trackdays... PP - you saying that the medium compound only did you for 3 sprints, nothing else rob
Powderpuff
Nothing else....although I suppose it is 4 sprints due to the shared drive with Alex....but no road or track miles

Powderpuff
Probably medium ACB's....though Alex was so impressed with new compund 15" CR500's that I may go for those so that I don't have to buy a separate set of wet's.....my A021's are dead ☹️
dba11
If i get a race license, can someone let me share a drive with them 🤔 Pretty please.... My car is a 1.8, so i can't compete against you lot. ☹️ Daren.
robmar
you know you didn't even have to ask... only 1 proviso, you are not allowed to beat me 😬 rob
Powderpuff
You only said yes so he can warm your tyres!!! The only problem is when it rains between runs as I found out ☹️ ☹️
robmar
hadn't thought of that, good idea 😬 plus he changes wheels quite quickly, but I guess that would disqualify me as it would have to go through scrutineering again ☹️ rob
Powderpuff
The start line marshalls have picked up on the dual run people now, they make the second runner wait a while so that no tyre temp advantage is really given. Having Darren as a paddock gofer could be useful though....will you share him
robmar
I am sure I can lend out Darren, however he would be on strict instructions to saboutage your car rob
