Area Representative marcos59 Posted November 18, 2014 Area Representative Share Posted November 18, 2014 I start a s2 rebuildIm currently at 'deskin' step at saw it already had a reskin in the past so mostly all tubes have 2 lines of holesA third one will be to much in my opinion and it is almost impossible,to reuse some existing holes (arch do not do)Do i need to (brass?) weld holes everywhere i can before Reskin ?Any advice welcome
virden
I think the best route is to ask Arch.
DJ.
For peace of mind, I would replace the affected tubes.Filling the holes with brass would add weight for not much gain in strength in my opinion.
nickh7
It must rattle a bit if its alreday had two . I wouldnt risk a third set of holes but as already said I'd talk to Arch first
DaveMorris
I have re-skinned my L.A. car. Got the new panels from Arch - and all the holes on the new panels were in the same place as the original panels. (Some minor "opening out" of some of teh holes on the Ali panel holes was required in some cases - but not many.Definitely no "second row" or "second set" of holes were needed to be drilled. (I had a few extra to drill for the lowered floors, but that's about it).Dave.
Rob Walker
You should be chiseling off the heads of the old rivets and tap the remaining bit of the rivet into the tube no need to drill new holes . Not desirable to drill new holes weakens the chassis.
TomB
Isnt drilling rivets out preferred? You get more swarl and mess, but less metal in the tubes.
Englishmaninwales
Tom, I ve re-skinned twice now and done both! Much greater risk of damage the the chassis tube with a drill, ending up with an enlarged hole. Also a sharp chisel and hammer is much quicker. The only downside with the chisel is if you are intending to re-use panels and avoiding damage.
