Paint Stripper

Has anyone had any experience of using POR15 paint stripper to remove paint from the aluminium panels? Or indeed, has anyone got a good recommendation of a product and / or method to remove paint to the bare aluminium?

POR Paint stripper appears to be 80% dichloromethane. That was the active ingredient in old Nitromors.

Is it available for domestic retail in the UK?

If it is dichloromethane please follow the safety recommendations.

I recently did some work for one of the top Ferrari restorers in the UK. They almost never use paint stripper like nitromorse as its difficult to remove all residue. I saw them using heat guns and scrapers on cars worth over £250,000. No residue, any remaining paint flakes easily sand down to bare metal and any scratches will fill. Take care near glass, rubber, wiring etc. and don't press too hard.

Methylene Chloride (dichloromethane) is readily available on Ebay. I even spotted a "click and collect" Argos item ....

But haven't there been threads bemoaning the unavailability of old Nitromors? Now found a couple, and see you've pointed this out already.

I seem to recall that mixing wallpaper paste into methylene chloride was suggested. It gives it a gell like consistency that holds it to vertical surfaces and gives the methylene chloride time to work. Sounds like a very good idea to me ...
