OliverSedlacek
I believe Ford set up all their cars with speedo drives geared to do 1000 revolutions per mile. Is that figure typical for other cars? Does anyone know any figures, especially extreme cases?
Member Jonathan Kay Posted October 27, 2014 Member Share Posted October 27, 2014 I don't know anything definitive and Hillier doesn't mention it but that appears to be common. "Look at the bottom of the speedometer face for the numbers 940, 960, 1000, or 1020. These numbers are the number of revolutions the speedometer cable must turn in one mile of travel. Your speedometer may or may not show a number. Most speedometer (sic) from 1965 on use 1000."Jonathan

OliverSedlacek
Simon is an ex colleague who ran an electronics company in Berks. He did a motorbike tour of South America a few years ago, hence the 'Chile Bike' reference.
