roammmm
A Teasing title to mean that my 2000 km nov 2002 v.v.c sounds almost like a Diesel engine when it is warm (not cold). A kind of smooth "clonk-clonk-clonk-clonk" at low revs. What's going on Doctor ?
AMMO
I recommend you never use low revs. You should always keep the tacho needle in the red "economy" zone. 😬 AMMO
Peter Carmichael
The VVC mechanism is actuated by your oil pressure. There may be an air pocket that is compressed out of existence when up to running pressure, but at idle and just above you may have "water hammer". tom7
VVC engines can sometimes sound a bit clonky, mostly from the top end. This is the sound of the vvc mechanism rattling away. It should not effect the performance of the car, just doesn't sound good. This was recognised some time ago and the (very tight) tolerances were tightened up, you may just have a bad build up. Rob Walker
Could be a stuck cam follower, whip the cam cover off and look for a clearance under the heel of the cams as you rotate the engine by hand. hydraulic followers should show no clearnce, if you find a gap thats your duffer. warrent
Anyone remember the Weasal (westfield diesel) about 10-15years ago. Normal westfield with a ford turbo diesel engine in it.....aparently went like stink with lots of torque!!!!
puremalt
K s sound dire anyway in my opinion. See the diesel mototbikes in the Sunday Times? LOads of torque and huge mpg. Great for the army apparently. When is it Summer?
oilyhands
K's sound dire? Mmmm.. a good K on song sounds as good as a BD anyday. Sounds to me like a valvetrain problem which on a VVC could be the portend of a forthcoming disaster. Further investigation is definitely warranted. Grim Reaper
And Mr Andrews just happens to have a brand new set of VVC camshafts and actuator mechanism in his oily hands at this moment...they're mine but if required they are available.
