AntR
Hello all,a couple of quick questions for removing a 1.8K engine.1. Do people generally remove the throttle bodies before lifting the engine (mine are Jenveys)2. If you remove the throttle bodies, what are the torque settings for the nuts upon reinstallation?ThanksAnton
Titanium7
Last time my engine came out I left them on, why would you remove them unless you have a reason. If you lift using the Caterham lifting eyes bolted on both of them are nowhere near the TB's
AntR
Thanks. Where do you get the lifting eyes from?
Jonathan Kay
Ask if anyone will lend them ± donation to NtL. Jonathan
Area Representative Richard Price Posted October 18, 2014 Area Representative Share Posted October 18, 2014 I've never used lifting eyes to lift an engine out.I always sling a single loop of rope, with a loop around the bottom pulley, and another under the sump at the flywheel end. Area Representative Paul Richards Posted October 19, 2014 Area Representative Share Posted October 19, 2014 Similar to Richard, but I use a couple of lengths of old seatbelt. If you end up with the lifting point midway between the front and rear of the cam cover it will lift the engine and gearbox together at the right angle to remove. Jonathan Kay
Comments from experts on load levellers, please. (I've only done this once. With two people and the car jacked up it went fine without one.) Thanks. Jonathan
MADMALC
Big for load levelers and using the correct lifting points. You have safety and absolute control plus it is easier.
AntR
Thanks guys. I'm also considering a load leveller. Just want to check the lifting eye points on the engine - looks like there's a bolt hole for one at the front of the engine on drivers side near the throttle body and presumably the one at the back goes where the rear cam seal cover is? Titanium7
CorrectRear nearside cam cover bolt and front RH side in front of the TB's. You probably will need the ally lifting eyes if using these lifting points and also for the load leveller.

John Vine
+1 for load levellers. It was a boon during my build (http://s405.photobucket.com/user/trog65/media/R400%20build/Engine/DSCN0466.jpg.html). Mind you, the Duratec came with lifting eyes.JV
